Assessment Comments
Assessment is based on results of an October 1995 DNR stream use assessment.
Basis for Assessment
Used results of the October 1995 DNR stream use assessment to assess support of the Class B(WW) aquatic life uses as FST due to (1) habitat score (24) better than the overall median score (22) for DNR stream use assessments, (2) fish score (13) better than the 75th percentile score for stream assessments made with electofishers, (3) presence of a meandered stream channel with relatively diverse aquatic habitats, and (4) very diverse fish community (19 species) for western Iowa streams. Continued support of aquatic life uses is threatened by excessive pasturing of the riparian zone and by excessive siltation due to row crop activities in the watershed.
