Documentation
Assessment Summary

The Class A1 use was assessed (monitored) as “not supported” due to algal blooms, non-algal turbidity and violations of the Class A1 criterion for pH. The Class BLW use was assessed (monitored) as "not supported" due to violations of the Class BLW criterion for pH and "WINOFI" due to a large population of cyanobacteria. The Class C use was assessed (monitored) as “not supported” due to violations of the Class BLW criterion for pH. All other designated uses are “not assessed.” Note: A TMDL for algae, turbidity, and dissolved oxygen at Green Valley Lake was prepared by DNR and approved by EPA in 2019. Because all Section 303(d) impairments identified for the current assessment/listing cycle (algal growth, turbidity, and dissolved oxygen) are addressed by the TMDL, this waterbody is placed in IR Category 4a (impaired; TMDL approved).

  • Green Valley Lake was assessed as "not supported" for the 2016 assessment/listing cycle. Based on DNR’s assessment methodology the current assessment/listing cycle must be without violations of the geometric mean criterion and without significantly greater than 10% of the samples violating the single-sample maximum criterion to propose delisting based on bacteria violations. There were no violations of the geometric mean criterion and there were less than 10% of the samples exceeding the single-sample maximum criterion for the current 2024 assessment listing cycle. Therefore, the impairment for indicator bacteria is suggested for delisting for the 2024 assessment/listing cycle.

Class HH - Fish Tissue Sampling: The full support for this use was removed based on the age of the fish tissue data.

Additional Notes: A fishery renovation was completed in 2008. Watershed improvements are being installed and other a sediment removal project is scheduled for the winter of 2009/2010. Water quality improvements are expected as this project progresses and the lake is filled. Because of the water quality improvement project activities throughout the assessment period, a limited number of samples were collected in 2008-2012.
