Assessment Summary

The Class BLW use remains assessed as "fully supported” based on information from the DNR Wildlife Bureau. All other designated uses were “not assessed.”

Assessment Explanation

Class BLW -

The Class BLW aquatic life use remains assessed (evaluated) as "fully supported” based on results of previous assessments.According to the local DNR Wildlife Biologist, the wetlands on the Riverton WMA do not receive significant silt from rainfall. The creeks/ditches that are used to fill the wetland cells do take on significant silt/sand after high rain events and also right where the pump outlet is. Siltation does occur in the wetland cells when when the adjacent levees are topped by flood water, especially right where levee blowouts occur. The wetlands at the Riverton WMA are high quality and provide very important habitat for wildlife.

Class HH - Fish Tissue sampling: No Data

In general, Iowa wetlands are not managed for recreational fisheries; thus, fish contaminant monitoring is not typically conducted at these waterbodies.
