Assessment Summary

The Class A1 uses are assessed (monitored) as “not supported” due to aesthetically objectionable conditions caused by poor water clarity due to non-algal turbidity and algal turbidity. Violations of the Class A1 criterion for pH also contribute to impairment at this lake. The Class BLW uses are assessed (monitored) as “not supported” due to violations of the Class BLW criterion for pH. The Class C (drinking water) uses are “not assessed” due to a lack of enough information on which to base an assessment. All other designated uses are “not assessed.” Note: A TMDL for siltation at Orient Lake was prepared by DNR and approved by EPA in 2001. Because not all Section 303(d) impairments identified for the current assessment/listing cycle (algae, pH) are addressed by the TMDL, this waterbody remains in category 5a (impaired, TMDL needed).

Class BLW – Fish Kill:

The Class BLW uses that were assessed (evaluated) as "partially supporting" due to a fish kill in March 2004 have been removed based on the assessment methodology. The 3b impairment is switched to 3a "not assessed" based on the age of the non-pollutant caused fish kill.
