Assessment Comments

Two stream use assessments in August 1991.

Basis for Assessment

Used a review of the field sheets from the two August 1991 DNR stream use assessments in Adams County to upgrade the assessment of support of the Class B(LR) aquatic life uses from PS to FST due to (1) moderately diverse fish communities (9 species from 4 families and 11 species from 4 families) for streams in the Missouri River portion of the Southern Iowa Rolling Loess Prairies (47f) subecoregion, (2) presence of nearly all the expected fish taxa (5 of 6 at both locations) for this subecoregion, and (3) generally good habitat quality at both locations.   The field sheets from the 1991 stream use assessments indicate that frequent stream bank erosion and siltation of stream channel are the primary threats to the continued support of the Class B(LR) uses.   The data upon which this assessment is based are more than 5 years old.  Additional monitoring is needed to update this assessment and to determine the status of the aquatic communities and habitats.
