Assessment based on surveys by IDNR Wildlife Bureau.

Basis for Assessment

For the 1994 report, support of the Class B(LW) aquatic life uses was assessed as PS primarily due to impacts of siltation from agricultural nonpoint sources.

For the 1996 report, used assessment of support of the Class B(LW) uses developed for the 1994 report.

For the 1998 report, continue to use the assessment of support of the Class B(LW) uses developed for the 1998 report (=PS).  This assessment was reviewed and approved by the DNR Wildlife Bureau.

For the 2000 report:  SUMMARY:  Continued to assess support of the Class B(LW) aquatic life uses as "partially supported."  Other beneficial uses remain "not assessed."  EXPLANATION:  The previous (1998) assessment of support of the Class B(LW) uses ("partially supported") was reviewed and approved by the DNR Wildlife Bureau in 2000.

For the 2002 report:  SUMMARY:  The assessment of support of the Class B(LW) aquatic life uses was changed from "partially supported" (evaluated) to "fully supported / threatened."  Other beneficial uses remain "not assessed."  EXPLANATION:  The previous (2000) assessment of support of the Class B(LW) uses ("partially supported") was reviewed by the DNR Wildlife Bureau in 2002.    According to the local DNR Wildlife Biologist (Telleen), this area is now managed as a moist soil waterfowl impoundment.   Thus, although siltation impacts remain a concern, these impacts are now less significant to the management goals for this wetland.   Fish consumption uses remain "not assessed."  In general, Iowa wetlands are not managed for recreational fisheries; thus, fish contaminant monitoring is not typically conducted at these waterbodies.
