Assessment Comments

Assessment is based on (1) 1996 biocriteria: IBI=44, 23 spp., 5 fams.; 1996 Biocriteria: Fish IBI=67 (good), BM-IBI=75 (good) and (2) IDNR ambient monitoring in 2000 & 2001.

Basis for Assessment

SUMMARY:  The Class B(WW) aquatic life uses were assessed as "fully supported."  Fish consumption uses are "not assessed."  The sources of data used for this assessment include (1) results of IDNR monthly ambient water quality monitoring conducted on Lizard Creek at Highway 169 at Fort Dodge (station 10940001, formerly station 500990) and (2) results of IDNR/UHL biocriteria monitoring in 1996.   EXPLANATION:  The Class B(WW) aquatic life uses were assessed as "fully supported."  None of the 24 samples collected during the 2000-2001 biennial period at the Hwy 169 station violated Class B(WW) water quality criteria for dissolved oxygen, pH, or ammonia-nitrogen; no violations occurred in the 17 samples analyzed for toxic metals or in the 7 samples analyzed for pesticides and other toxic organic compounds.   Results of IDNR/UHL biocriteria monitoring in September 1996 also indicate "full support" of the Class B(WW) aquatic life uses (see assessment for the 2000 report above).   Fish consumption uses were not assessed due to the lack of fish contaminant monitoring in this stream segment.
