Basis for Assessment
Stream was formerly B(w) but was assessed as a "general use" stream during DNR stream use assessments, 1990-1995. Sampling of Brewers Creek in 1988 by DNR FO2 showed contamination with atrazine, alachlor, cyanazine, and metolachlor "above ambient water quality criteria;" the Van Diest Supply Co. was identified as the likely source. Monitoring of surface and groundwaters continued in March 1992. As of January 1996, the Van Diest Co. had plans to continue with monitoring of ground water and surface water (Brewers Cr.). [Information from "Annual Report, 1995, Registry of Hazardous Waste or Hazardous Substance Disposal Sites" prepared by DNR Solid Waste Section.] Not assessed for the 1998 report. That is, waterbody is not designated for Class C (drinking water) uses, stream is not directly tributary to any Class C waterbodies, and no known drinking water-related problems exist.
