Des Moines River IA 04-UDM-1217
from the west line of S15 T88N R28W (Webster Co.) to the dam of the Ft. Dodge impoundment.
Assessment Comments
Assessment is based on results of fish tissue (RAFT) monitoring in 1999. Fish kill at Ft. Dodge in Aug. 1995.
Basis for Assessment
SUMMARY: The Class B(WW) aquatic life uses are assessed as "fully supported." Fish consumption uses remain assessed as "fully supported." The sources of data for this assessment include (1) results of monthly monitoring from October 1999 through September 2001 at the IDNR ambient city monitoring station located downstream from Fort Dodge near Kalo (station 10940003) and (2) results of U.S. EPA/IDNR fish tissue (RAFT) monitoring near Dolliver State Park in 1999. This assessment was also used for the adjacent downstream segment of the Des Moines River (IA 04-UDM-0040-1). EXPLANATION: The Class B(WW) aquatic life uses are assessed as "fully supported." Monitoring at the IDNR city station showed no violations of Class B(WW) water quality criteria for dissolved oxygen, pH, or ammonia-nitrogen in the 14 samples collected, for toxic metals in the 14 samples collected, and for pesticides in the six samples analyzed, during the 2000-2001 biennial period. These results suggest "full support" of the Class B(WW) aquatic life uses. Fish consumption uses remain assessed as "fully supported" based on results of U.S. EPA/IDNR fish tissue (RAFT) monitoring on the Des Moines River at Dolliver State Park in 1999 (see assessment for the 2000 report).
