South Raccoon River IA 04-RAC-1183
from confluence with Middle Raccoon R. (S9 T78N R29W Dallas Co.) to confluence with Brushy Cr. in S22 T79N R31W Guthrie Co.
Assessment Comments
Fish survey conducted in June 1988.
Basis for Assessment
Continued to use the assessment of support of the Class B(WW) aquatic life uses developed for the 1996 report, even though the stream survey upon which this assessment is based was conducted nearly 10 years ago: more recent information is not available. A review of the field notes from this assessment shows, as stated above, a relatively diverse fish community for the Mississippi River portion of the Southern Iowa Rolling Loess Prairies subecoregion (47f), with 16 species from 5 families, the presence of all the expected fish taxa (8 of 8) for streams in this subecoregion, and the presence of a good population of the expected game fish species (channel catfish). Additional monitoring is needed to update this assessment and to determine the status of the aquatic communities and habitats. Depending on habitat quality and lack of threats to support of the aquatic life uses, this river reach may be found to fully support the Class B(WW) uses.
