Basis for Assessment
Used assessment of support of the Class B(WW) aquatic life uses developed for the 1994 report (=FST). This stream, as all the south-flowing tributaries of the North Raccoon River in Greene, Carroll, and Calhoun counties, are well within the recent range of the soon-to-be federally-listed Topeka shiner. Kaminski (ISU graduate student of Menzel) collected one Topeka shiner from Lake Creek at Lake City in 1995. Continued support of the Class B(WW) uses is threatend by pasturing of the riparian corridor of this stream and by channel straightening in headwater reaches.
