North Raccoon River IA 04-RAC-1123
mouth (S21 T78N R27W Dallas Co.) to confluence with Hickory Cr. in S17 T79N R27W Dallas Co.
Assessment Comments
Assessment is based on results of U.S. EPA/IDNR fish tissue (RAFT) monitoring in 2000.
Basis for Assessment
[Note: For the 2002 report, the previous waterbody segment for the North Raccoon River (IA 04-RAC-0030-0), which extended 53 miles from its mouth to Buttrick Creek in Greene County, was split into four subsegments: (1) mouth to Hickory Creek near Adel (Dallas Co.) (IA 04-RAC-0030-1), (2) Hickory Creek to Swan Lake Branch (Dallas Co.) (IA 04-RAC-0030-2), (3) Swan Lake Branch to Greenbrier Creek (Dallas Co.) (IA 04-RAC-0030-3), and (4) Greenbrier Creek to Buttrick Creek (Greene Co.) (IA 04-RAC-0030-4). See above for previous Section 305(b) assessments for the original 53-mile segment of the North Raccoon River.]
SUMMARY: The Class A (primary contact recreation) uses and the Class B(WW) aquatic life uses were "not assessed" due to lack of recent water quality information upon which to base these assessments. Fish consumption uses are assessed as "fully supported." EXPLANATION: Routine water quality monitoring is not conducted in this river segment; thus, data upon whic to base assessments of the Class A and/or Class B(WW) uses are not available. Results of U.S. EPA/IDNR fish tissue (RAFT) monitoring on the North Raccoon River near Adel in September 2000 show that levels of all contaminants in the composite samples of fillets from channel catfish were well-below ½ of the respective FDA action levels and IDNR levels of concern. Contaminant levels in these samples were very low. This assessment is also used for the adjacent upriver segment (IA 04-RAC-0030-2).
