Assessment Comments

Two stream use assessments in 1990.

Basis for Assessment

Used a review of the field sheets from the two 1990 DNR stream use assessments in Polk County to continue to assess support of the Class B(LR) aquatic life uses as PS due to the lack of a majority of the expected fish taxa for streams of the either the Des Moines Lobe (47b) or Southern Iowa Rolling Loess Prairies (47f) subecoregions at the assessment site near the mouth of Fourmile Creek (4 of 11), and only a slight majority (6 of 11) near Pleasant Hill, with several important taxa missing (e.g., Ictalurids and Catostomids).  The data upon which this assessment is based are more than 5 years old.   Follow-up monitoring is needed to update this assessment, to determine the status of the aquatic communities and habitats, and to determine the degree to which the Class B(LR) uses may be impaired.   No information available for assessing support of the Class A primary contact recreation uses.
