Assessment Comments

Two stream use assessments.

Basis for Assessment

Used a review of the field sheets from the two September 1990 DNR stream use assessments in Madison County to upgrade the assessment of support of the Class B(LR) aquatic life uses from FST to FS due to (1) presence of relatively diverse fish communities (species/families:  11/4, 12/4), with nearly all species the expected species for headwater streams, (2) presence of nearly all the expected fish taxa (7 of 8 and 6 of 8) for streams in the Mississippi River portion of the Southern Iowa Rolling Loess Prairies subecoregion (47f), and (3) reaches of exceptional habitat quality with very diverse substrates, numerous pool/riffle sequences, no channel alterations, and very stable stream banks.   The data upon which this assessment is based is more than 5 years old.   Additional monitoring is needed to update this assessment and to determine the status of the aquatic communities and habitats.
