Assessment Comments
Stream use assessment.
Basis for Assessment
Continue to use the assessment of support of the Class B(LR) aquatic life uses (PS) developed for the 1994 report. Follow-up monitoring is needed to determine the status of the aquatic communities and habitats and to determine the degree to which the Class B(LR) uses may be impaired. A review of the field sheets from the September 1990 DNR stream use assessments shows that, despite relatively high numbers of fish species/families present (8/3 & 11/6), the fish communities as the two sample sites contained less than a majority of the expected species/genera of Class B(LR) streams in the Mississippi River portion of the Southern Iowa Rolling Loess Prairies subecoregion. Several of the fish species present were more typical of lake environments (e.g., white and black crappie, bluegill, largemouth bass), and their presence in Badger Creek can be attributed to escapees from Badger Creek Lake.
