Assessment Comments
Stream use assessment. Fish kill in 1996.
Basis for Assessment
Continue to use the assessment of support of the Class B(LR) aquatic life uses developed for the 1996 report (=FST). An additional threat exists due to fish kills: a fish kill occurred on Mud Creek in early August 1996; the cause of the kill was animal waste from an animal feeding operation. The information upon which this assessment is primarily based is more than 5 years old. Additional monitoring is needed to update the assesment and to determine the status of the aquatic communities and habitats. A review of the field sheet from the November 1990 DNR stream use assessment conducted near the Class B(LR)/general boundary shows (1) presence of a moderately diverse fish community (9 species from 3 families) and presence of a majority of the expected fish taxa (8 of 11) for streams in the Des Moines Lobe subecoregion (47b).
