Assessment Comments

Three stream use assessments in 1990.

Basis for Assessment

Used results of the three November 1990 DNR stream use assessments to assess support of the Class B(LR) aquatic life uses as FST, primarily on the strength of the assessment in Thomas Mitchell County Park.   The field sheet indicates that the habitat score (24) is better than the overall median score (22) for DNR stream use assessments, diverse substrates, several pool/riffle sequences, and only islolated channel alterations.   According to other field sheets, habitat quality declines in a downstream direction (an opposite trend for streams in Iowa), with habitat scores (21 and 18) worse than the overall median score, and diversity of substrates decreasing and frequency of channel alterations increasing.   Continued support of the aquatic life uses is threatened by channel alterations and unstable/eroding stream banks.
