Assessment Comments

Two 1991 stream use assessment sites in Dubuque County.

Basis for Assessment

Used a review of the field sheets from the October 1991 DNR stream use assessments in Dubuque County to change the assessment of the support of the Class B(LR) aquatic life uses from FST to "not assessed" due to lack of sufficient information on the aquatic communities of this stream reach.   Despite indications of average to above average habitat, only 4 cyprinids were captured at the downstream site (excellent habitat quality) and 6 species from 2 families were captured at the upstream site (slightly below average habitat quality).   Notes on field sheet suggest that the low fish community diversity and somewhat contradictory results are related to problems with sampling very rocky streams with seines.   Additional monitoring is needed to better determine the status of the aquatic communities of this stream and to provide the information necessary to develop an accurate assessment of support of the Class B(LR) aquatic life uses.
