Stream use assessment.

Basis for Assessment

Continued to use the assessment of support of the Class B(LR) aquatic life uses developed for the 1996 report (=FST).   A review of the field sheets from the two DNR stream use assessments in March 1991, however, shows that only 3 Cyprinid species were captured at each site.   These results suggest a fish community that is far below the diversity expected in streams of the Central Irregular Plains (40) ecoregion.   Less than a majority of the expected fish taxa (3 of 8 and 2 of 8) were present at each location.   These unexpected results (especially with capture of 24 species from 8 families in Subsegment 1 of this waterbody in October 1994) may be due to sampling in late winter (early March).   Follow-up monitoring is needed to determine the status of the aquatic communities and habitats and to determine the degree to which the Class B(LR) uses may be impaired.
